Name:
Simon Foster
A.k.a: Snr, The Goat
Lookalikes: Zinedine Zidane
Best Batting: 66no vs Walton on Thames, 2003
Best Bowling: 4-28 vs Essendon, 2001
Champagne Moment: Taking a fine running catch at deep
backward square leg to dismiss the Hollybush's cocky fat
Saffrican after the two had shared much niggle during
Snr's spell
Profile:
Snr
is the Cavs' senior pro and a stalwart of the middle
order. If ever the Cavs need someone to grind out an
innings, The Cavs 2003 Player of the Year will invariably
deliver.
More
of a nudger and a nurdler than a masterblaster, 95%
of his runs are scored between the keeper and point,
resulting in a scoring chart that's more pac-man than
wagon wheel. Non-one is more stubborn at the crease
than the goat; you're more likely to see Stephen Hawking
walk than him, while he'll do anything to protect his
wicket, including running out little bro Timmy F against
Walton-on-Thames just four runs short of his maiden
fifty. But, it's this tenacity and love of a battle
that makes him so crucial to the Cavaliers.
The
Goat's bowling has come down a few mph in recent years
but is still an effective weapon, even though the military
medium he serves up these days is more Chelsea Pensioner
than Desert Rat. He's at pains to avoid the skipper's
eye unless there is buffet batting at the crease or
there's a good opportunity for some sledging, oohing
and ahing and raised eyebrows at the ump for not giving
LBWs. But, Snr's niggly line and length can both slow
the runrate down and chip in with some valuable wickets
and this, added to his batting and prowess in the slip
cordon, ensure he's one of the first names on the cavs'
team sheet.
