Shenley Village Cricket Club - Home 21/06/09 Scorecard

Cavs vs Shenley CC

The Cavs deliver at Woolams.

Sunday saw a youthful Cavs 11 beat a strong Shenley side.
Four lads made their debut's and all of them made telling contributions.

Winning the toss, stand in skipper Handford elected to field. It was arguably their best fielding display for many a year. Not one catch dropped and other than the odd wide, extras were minimal with no miss-fields to note. Needless to say Ellis had a quiet day with the fines book.

Truro and Muddy opended the bowling and both delivered. Muddy taking 3 for 27 off his 8, and Truro unlucky not to get a wicket from his 8 overs (for 26 runs). New man Rowhan aka Tant 2, bowled superbly with figures of 8 overs 0 wickets for 18 - certainly a man for the future... once he has passed his GCSE's (his economics exam is today - Monday). Charlie - soon to tour NZ with the bogey rugby team - took 3 for 20 off his 6 overs so respek to him too. LBC, Handford and Woody also chipped in with overs and wickets. The Woody wobble doing his stuff by removing their top scorer when he was on 44.
Shenley put on 166 for 9 off their 40 overs - with the Cavs taking key wickets at crucial times to deny them a big total.

An inspired batting order selection then followed.... Best and another new boy, Beggs, opened up for the Cavs, and what a platform they made. Putting on 98 for the first wicket and nullifying the strong opening bowling partnership of Shenley, Beggs went for 45 with Besty scoring his highets ever Cavs score, with 55. Thorpe came in and hung around, whilst LBC and Baines came and went pretty quickly - so it was down to the 5th year combo of Thorpe and Handford to see the Cavs home, with three overs to spare. El finishing on 22 not out and Handford 29 not out.

MOM - Besty - cometh the hour, cometh the bestival!
But this was a team display where everyone delivered.
Well done to the 4 lads who stepped in.
