The joy of Sax

A memorable first 2007 tour win for the Cavs but a game
Big Phil Lythgoe will want to forget.
Nick ‘Big Bird’ Brindley’s allstar XI
were always in control against the Sax’s dads and
lads.
That is until tour virgin Lythgoe came on to bowl and got
carted for 26 in his first (and last) over - a new club
record. Have a blow, Phil.
Fortunately for skipper Brindo his seven other bowlers
kept it a little tighter and restricted the home side’s
score to 190 from 40 overs.
Special mention, though, to B Rankin for two appalling
dropped catches that were to earn him the not-so-coveted
orange cap of woe, and to Luca Fireman who, after turning
up 30 minutes late, took his first Cavs wicket from ‘inside
left’.
24-hour tourist Jay Wise and Rusty ‘Roulette’
Timms began the Cavs reply in confident mood and notched
a half-century partnership.
RT was the first to go (30) and the fall of his wicket
brought the in-form Todd ‘He Must Be On Steroids’
Baines to the middle.
A quick-fire 50 from the two-time man-of-the-tour set the
visitors on the road to glory, but Lythgoe and Rankin still
had time to embarrass themselves further before victory
was sealed.
Big Phil could manage just five runs and BCR was caught
behind for a paltry one run to ensure heavy fine-age in
the post-match stitch-up.
