What do Essex girls and Cavaliers have in common? Suggestions to bcrankin@hotmail.com. Thought it'd get everyone reading. Yes, our third game of the season was in the land of XR2s, big jewellery and, erm, South Africans. The Cavs came from the four corners of the UK for this one. The Hat raced down from Shropshire, Firms, Foster Jnr, and Rankin from Homelands, Clem from the golf course and Chianti from the confession box in Harpenden. (Word has it that he's still trying to exorcise the demons of Minehead 1998). We fielded first and it wasn't long before Jacques Kallis and co. were getting stuck in. P Wise, though, struck and early blow and The Hat dealt the home side a second blow soon after. A run out throw from the boundary saw their third wicket go down but, try as we did, we couldn't stop the runs coming and 179/7 was a decent score. Against us. In reply, Rankin got his toe broken for one run, and we lost our last six wickets for under 15 runs. In between Wisey hit a nice nifty and Snr dabbed his way to 45. The match was won and lost in an instant when Wisey attempted a quick single but failed to get home. After that the Cavs fell away and apart from Clem's sweet four the last few overs were painful to watch. One that got away, was the opinion in the dressing room. Bring on the Bush.
