'Feed the Lloyd and he will Catch'

The Hollybush - 2003

Another dismal performance made it four loses in four games for the Cavs. But, the result aside, this game will always be remembered as the moment G 'Lager' Lloyd came of age, on and off the pitch. On a minefield of a wicket, with the ball shooting all over the shop, he managed to snaffle four catches. Paul Wise was the main beneficiary and took four 'Bush wickets. Firms took two in another impressive spell and the rest were sprinkled around the other bowlers. If a slip chance had been held by Rankin The 'Bush might have been looking at a meagre total, but the one that got away proved a turning point in the game as the batsman went on to top score and put the pressure on the Cavs batting. The innings break was marked by the finest tea in the Cavs' history. If you want to know how to make homemade cakes, tuna sarnies with an edge and put the smiles back on the faces of Cavs' cricketers, go no further than Mr and Mrs Lloyd. A superb effort in the kitchen that had both teams salivating into their half-time brews. After the turn-around it was time for F Tant to put his money where his mouth was and open the batting with gusto and guile. To everyone's delight, he did. Ably supported by J Wise, he cut and hooked his way to a season's best (not hard, admittedly) before being undone by a pearler that jagged back in about half a mile. J kept it going at the other end, but we couldn't get a vital partnership going and wickets tumbled at regular intervals. No-one else troubled the scorer and, with the light fading fast and drizzle coming down on Rotho, the Cavs limped to a miserable defeat. Firmin's golden duck at the end summed it all up. The only way is up.
