Players
and Jesters (2) - 2002
Is
there no stopping the mighty cavs? Another quality all-round
performance yesterday put the so-called Players and Jesters
to the sword, so to date I reckon our record for the season
is Played 7, Won 3, Drawn 3, Lost 1 - not bad at all, with
plenty of eminently winable fixtures left.
Main
performer yesterday was of course Jay Wise, with a tremendous
innings of 91. Deserved a ton because the conditions weren't
really conducive to batting, the ball wasn't coming on to
the bat and the outfield was very slow. Surely Jimmy Nicks'
top score of 93 will go soon! Recent weeks have seen all
the big guns get close; Jay, Jimmy Hat, Wisey, the Goat,
Bouffant... Good support yesterday from BCR (26) who was
put under a lot of pressure early on but kept his head well,
and Snr, Mr Dependable, with another good knock of 33. Wisey
and Barry were both 4 and out, Jimmy Hat and Brindo 6 and
8 not out respectively.
Despite
being cornered in to a declaration earlier than we'd have
liked, the Cavs' 192/4 was never going to be trouble, especially
after Tooperman and yours truly (for a change, hitting the
spot regularly) put the squeeze on early doors, leaving
them reeling at about 12 for 3. Hat, taking over Lloyd's
gloves, was quality behind the stumps (although of course
his banter simply couldn't reach the peerless standards
that Delia sets!). Wisey bowled with a lot of pace, resulting
in a top notch catch from Snr in the cordon, Bouffant got
a bit of extra bounce and got one, Rob Wise bagged his first
wicket for the Cavs, and Brindo polished off the tail in
some style, skittling the oppo for 120ish. Plus, to top
things off, both Paul and Jay Wise made history by both
taking catches.
