Match
reports - Essendon
For
those of us not fortunate enough to Witness Essendon's thrilling
run-chase yesterday afternoon, here's the run down of the
match:
We
were loads better than them, batted like a dream, they were
boring, but we couldn't get the f**kers out.
That's
about the size of it. But, although we were all rather fed
up at how the game petered out, there are loads of positives
to take from it, particularly a quality opening stand of
124 from Wisey and BCR (62 and 60 respectively), and a run
a ball 59 not out for Jimmy Hat. Brindo has vowed never
to return to Essendon after his second successive duck there,
while Jimmy Nicks' second ball duck - preceded by a slow
hand clap on the bowler' run up - was priceless.
227/4
dec was one of our highest scores, and with all the talk
being about Esso having the bulk of their Saturday 1s batting
line up, BCR was spot on not to risk declaring earlier and
giving them a 180-200 target in 40-45 overs. But, as it
turns out, we probably had too many runs on the board and
Esso never really set out to try and get them. That said,
with a license for attacking fields, and with the ball swinging
around all over the place and popping up off a green track,
we really should have got them out. Brindo bowled nicely,
2 for 18 of 10, I took 1 for 15 off 10 and everyone else,
including Lloyd, had a chuck, but to no avail, as the oppo
went from 33 for 3 to 166 for 3, with their two fat lads
at the end both getting unbeaten 50s. That, however, doesn't
really show the gulf in class, as the last 100 runs were
gifted to them by us lobbing it up hoping that they might
give us a catch. Which they didn't.
Anyway,
still a solid performance from the Cavs, well lead by Skippy
B Rankin. We're up in Rotho on Sunday, top pitch; who's
up for it?
